10 days to go

Well, I’m breaking my musical drought in what is, for me, pretty spectacular fashion. I’m going on tour with one of my favourite bands - Air, and can hardly wait.It came about on the day of the big storms in London. I was struggling home from Brentford, stranded on endless suburban rail platforms with trees on the lines, commuting tempers fraying and unravelling to the tune of the drivers’ repeated apologies. An SMS arrived from Leo Abrahams, asking if I fancied doing a month in Europe with Air… he wasn’t going to bother asking me at all, thinking (rightly) that I had decided to pack touring in once and for all.

But come on - how can you say no to Air? I love their stuff, including 10,000Hz Legend, which most people hated. So I texted back to say I would love to.

Cut to now. I’ve just had my set list sent over from Nicolas, one half of the duo, along with my download of the new album - its just stunning. I’m getting to do my dream gig - multi-instrumental, playing guitars, bass, keyboards and vocals - playing incredible music with nice people. What could be better? And I’m rehearsing in Paris for three weeks… how civilised!

It was a good excuse to get some new gear - a new MacBook Pro, maxed out with everything I could throw at it, and some new guitar stuff. A lovely new bass - courtesy of Paul Turner. Ah yes, I am changing worlds again, and it feels strange.

I haven’t been on tour since my last one with Ronan in December 04! That really is a lifetime ago. But I do love it, so I’m hoping the old magic will return… despite the obvious strangeness of being away from my family. It was one thing being away from Diane for weeks on end, but now little Luka - just as he’s learning to talk - it will be heartbreaking. I shall look forward to my Saturday-morning Eurostar journeys from Paris to London.

So that’s that. Lot’s of good MoNIO action recently - the mighty Foy Vance has been in the studio (one of his own making) recording the long awaited album, and Big Ken Haddock is, at this very moment, tracking his new one with Jules Maxwell and Jimmy Smith. Exciting times.

    Hey Steve,
No news usually means good news, as it can only mean you have been busy. All good things come to those who wait, this must be a truly wonderful experience for you. I’m very happy for you and one thing is for sure…27th March in the Milkyway is going to be a good day.

Awww and Luka is already learning to talk, good luck with all the travelling between Paris and London over the next few weeks.

    Take care,
    x T

Ronan - december 04 - that was amazing. Long time ago tho. Hope you enjoy being back playing. The worlds needs more good guitar players.
