Last days of Paris

I’m going to try really hard to be disciplined about writing during the Air tour… which is now more than I bargained for in the beginning, in that they’ve asked me to stay on for the full world tour. It transpired to be a lot more complex gig than Leo or I had originally thought, and involving less electric guitar. I have to play guitars, bass, keyboards, glockenspiel (no kidding), tambourine, and do a lot of backing vocals.
The original plan was that Leo would take over after Europe, but its really not the sort of thing you can just step into… changing the faders on an SH101 for the intro to “Kelly Watch The Stars” and then again as the bassline kicks in (you’ve about 1.5 seconds to do it) takes a few days to master in itself!
To be honest, its pretty much my dream gig. The guys themselves, Nico (Nicolas Godin) and JB (Jean-Benoit Dunckel) are great. They were really relaxed during rehearsals, and I grew really fond of JB in particular - we chatted together quite a bit on the bus to and from rehearsals. Both are extremely gifted musicians who can really “walk the talk” - and they know what they want. The other members of the band - Earl (Harvin) on drums and Vincent (Tourelle) on synth world are also pretty easy-going and the whole thing sounds pretty good. We just need an injection of energy that I know from experience you just can’t get from a rehearsal room.

We’re off to Glasgow tomorrow. I WILL have my square sausage (weefiery, if you read this, tell me where I should go) and a cup of Weegie tea… a far cry from the magical epicurean wonders of Rue de Mouffetard in a sunny spring Paris today.
