LAX to LHR to SYD

That was a great little expedition… a whirlwind of a tour where something seemed to be happening every minute of every day. From the magic of a North Beach Italian restaurant with Nick Phillips of the Imaginary Foundation (home of my favourite T-shirts) to chatting to Beck backstage at the Greek Theatre LA about being a dad, to looking at rusty guitars with James Trussart in a magical Silverlake evening… and I still can’t believe I met Jonathan Ive and the Apple Industrial Design team. Madness of the finest kind.

But now I’m home. Within five seconds of getting through the door, Diane had the kettle on and it felt so good to be back with my wee team. Touring with Air has been such a good experience from many angles, and one of those is making you realise what you already have.

We did the song “Electronic Performers” as the opener for the US tour, and it was awesome to be a part of. I love their album “10000Hz Legend” - it takes some getting used to, but it is visionary, despite its slating by the press at the time - I think everyone just wanted another “Moon Safari”. It was cool to be in LA with them, hearing some of the stories of the recording of it, the last days of rock and roll excess - one month in a suite at Chateau Marmont. Unreal.

OK. Off to try and beat the jet-lag, though I am WIDE awake as we approach midnight.

I met you backstage at Bimbo’s in San Francisco. My girlfriend and I enjoyed the French wine tasting of 1976 story. I recently bought a home in Sonoma, CA. I guess I better start tasting some french style wines-Chateau Potelle, Clos du Val,St. SupĂ©ry Winery, Opus One, they’re everywhere!

Hey Steve. Sounds like you had a good tour. I’ve been reading thru the walk 05 journal - remember that?. I remember obsessively logging in to the website everyday to see how things were going.
Are you planning anymore shows with Ronan in the future?

I also want some of those t-shirts from that site. On my christmas list I think.

Hope life at home is treating you well, before you’re off to Sydney again. Will you be doing the November Air dates as well, or has the Air journey come to an end for you?
With regards to the street names of LA, I always thought La Cienega was such a beautiful street name until I recently found out it actually means ‘the swamp’….which made La Cienega lose some of its beauty (The song by Ryan Adams is still fantastic though) . It’s been nice catching up again on your US adventures, thanks for the updates (and thanks to Foy for sending you the message which made you post again).
