Back to London

I was in Ireland for a few days - I brought little Luka back to see all the relatives, who were beside themselves cooing over the wee guy from the minute we arrived until today, climbing out of the car at “George Best” Belfast City Airport (catchy name - I can just see the huge [...]

Oops.

Is it just me, or is Ricky Gervais the most over-rated comedian in the universe. As my old granny would say, he is a bag of balls. I watched “Extras” last night… it was just like everything else he’s ever done - like watching episode one of “The Office”, over, and over, and over again. [...]

Old Gaffer

Just a quick note to say my grandfather John Pendry (in his 80’s) has managed to get a WordPress blog up and running with only the smallest amount of assistance from me - he’s got some great thoughts on things and stories from an amazing life. Go check it out and leave him a comment [...]

Back from holidays

Who in their right mind would go on holiday in Belgium? My friend Nikki was right to ask the question as to why we were spending 10 precious days in Northern Europe when we could have been in southern Italy or somewhere gorgeous. Well, when you have friends as cool as Monica Rawlinson & Didier [...]

Freedom of Music

I have decided to post a completely free download of my album Angels In Drag for general download. All it will take is an email address and a link will be sent. Please tell everyone you know to go and grab it. I will be doing the same for the next record. For the time [...]

And they’re off

I don’t even know where to start… Diane and Luka went away to Scotland last week, and thus began a whirlwind week of gigs, music, late nights and sunshine, the strange wakings to silence and missing my little boy. But the major event was the starting of the new record!!

Ghost of Zidane

I was thinking about the strangeness of synchronicity… in my street, we were out watering plants, a babble of neighbourhood chatter over fences, cups of tea, the ticking over of a perfectly ordinary Sunday. Yet in Germany, the biggest sporting event in the world, the expectation of nations, a time for heroes and heroic actions… [...]

A fine old day. Only because there were a couple of big storms, which I love. When the thunder really gets overhead, I get an unsuppressable urge to go out in the rain. I loved Sydney for the big summer storms every afternoon… these little ones in London pale in comparison.
Well, its been more web [...]

Scene Memory

I just got a copy of Leo Abrahams’ new record ‘Scene Memory’ through the post. Much to my amazement he called me on Friday to say that he had dedicated the record to me. I was completely overcome and very emotional. I have a deep bond with the record - it pulled me through some [...]

Last night my friend David “Wildcard” Tughan called me to say he had a spare ticket for an Oscar Peterson show in the Royal Albert Hall. Being as it was a fine summer’s evening, not to mention the fact that Oscar Peterson is regarded by many as the greatest jazz pianist of all time, I [...]

Ahead of the game

I’ve been designing the new and improved g-raff site. Initially I was thinking of going quite left of centre. Then I thought that was a bad idea. We’re going to do what we do - simple, content that just gets the point across and some smart little Flash bits. Isn’t everyone doing that?
No. Web 2.0. [...]

Summer, meet winter…

Raining in London. I don’t mind today, as I feel a bit under the weather. My voice has headed off for a holiday, leaving me with a sore throat, a squeaky whine and hoarse whisper in its place. I had to go to Sydenham DIY today to pick up some drain-unblocking equipment (the duties of [...]

Tea, Teething, Teetering

Tea
Just drinking a cup now. Had a cup of milky nonsense at our friends Jo & Laurence’s place. Laurence doesn’t drink much tea… he serves a fine cold beer, mind you. They’ve just had a lovely wee girl - it was strange holding a tiny baby in my arms, as Luka is now a powerhouse [...]

Saturday morning with baby Luka. He’s so mobile now its scary, and with his new wee teeth has a very simple checklist of things to do with everything he comes across:

Can I eat it?
Can I rip it?
Can I climb up it?

.
If the answer to all three is “No” then he moves on to something else. [...]

London gridlock. There’s nothing quite like it to ruin your day. Travel should be transparent - a bland tunnel through which to pass on the way to brighter things - and I’m pretty sure it used to be like that, but time have changed and travelling from A to B has become a thing of [...]
